  City Buses

City buses usually only accept exact change, tokens(辅币) , or transfers(转车证). Bus tokens may be the same as subway tokens in your city. You can ask the drive for a transfer when you enter the bus. The transfer allows you to continue your ride on a second bus for free. Ask the driver for more information about transfers.

  Airport Buses

May companies provide bus service from an airport to one or more location within a city(railway stations, hotels, etc.). Ask about rates at the airport when you arrive.

  Long-distance Buses

You can travel cheaply around the U.S if you don't mind long bus rides. The two nationwide long-distance bus networks are operated by Greyhound and the U.S.A.. The coverage of the country is full , with good connection; the prices are relatively low; and you get to see plenty of the country.

On the other hand, you should bear in mind that the distances you want to travel may be enormous and that it is possible to become bored, tired and uncomfortable. The seats are comfortable, however, and there is a reasonable amount of leg-room. Buses are also airconditioned and normally have toilets on board. Regular stops are made for changing or resting drives, picking up passengers, food and drinks. Even during night-time journey, in fact, you may have to leave the bus from time to time so that in can be cleaned. The buses have non-smoking sections, but in such a confined(有限的) space this is not much comfort to non-smoker.

Seasoned(有经验的) bus travelers recommend sitting half-way down the bus for the smoothest ride. Window seats may be cooler than aisle(通道) seats—sometimes too cool at night as the drivers turn up the air-conditioning to keep themselves awake.

  Tick and Reservation

You can, if you wish, get open-dated tickets from the bus station or a travel agent in advance, but for most trips it is neither necessary nor possible to make reservations(预定) .If there is not enough room for everybody, they simply put on another bus. If you have not bought your ticket in advance, you can buy one from a ticket desk at the bus staion(not on the bus).

Most often you have to check in and hand over you beggage, as you would at an aiport.

  Cheap-rate Passes

Both the major bus lines issue(发行) cheap-rate passes giving unlimited travel for specified periods of time. These can be bought at no extra cost in America . They probably won't tell you this , but a Greyhound pass is walid on trailways , and vice versa.

  Bus Stations

It has to be said that very often, especially in the big cities, American bus stations are very rough and unpleasant places, in whick rather threatening and unhappy-looking people wander around. In some cities the bus companies have had to set us separate waiting areas for woman and children.
